Attractive Handmade Decorations for the Home

Seasons Change

I can’t quite believe we are fast approaching Autumn – the nights are certainly drawing in and the mornings are darker and damper.  Autumn, for me always signifies the biggest change out of all the seasons – probably because it heralds the start of a new school year!

The summer has been wonderful and we can’t complain this year – it may well last into September.

To welcome the start of a new season, I’ve added a variety of Autumn/Halloween goodies to the website – some are familiar favourites, others are completely new.  They even have their own category on the website!  If you really want to be organised, there’s the Christmas category too!  This is a work in progress with lots more items to be added as and when they get made.

Enjoy the last few days of August and long may the warm days continue!

The Summer Holidays rumble on

Don’t get me wrong, I am partial to a school summer holiday – no pesky packed lunches or clock watching come to that matter.  I do feel that these holidays are rumbling on a little too fast for my liking.  Now we are approaching mid August it does seem like the holidays will be over before we know it.

We have done lots of varied activities this year, now that the boys’ are older, it means we can be a little more adventurous.  Holidays wouldn’t be the same unless we saw their friends, but this year activities have involved some tennis lessons and a great afternoon kayaking (not me!).  I enjoyed sitting in the sun on a picnic bench doing absolutely nothing – a completely unique thing for me!

We also ventured further afield into Brighton for the day.  I love Brighton – lots of vintage, lots of retro, and lots of kitsch (too much so for the rest of the family).  A fair bit of ‘plastic’ did work it’s way back with us, it would be rude not too, and of course when would I have the opportunity again!

No trip to the seaside can pass without going onto the pier and enjoying the rides, ice cream, candy floss and skimming stones into the sea – bliss!

Until the next time!

In the Garden

Last weekend we took a trip to the Hampton Court Flower Show.  We hadn’t had a chance to go for a few years, so it was great to go again and bask in the heat, great garden displays and all that was on offer.  It certainly didn’t disappoint (apart from being a little too hot!).

I was on a mission to purchase some floxgloves – whilst we don’t have a typical cottage garden, I do draw a lot of inspiration from those who cram their gardens full of glorious cottage garden plants – for me foxgloves have to feature!

What we do have is quite a large ‘woody’ area so foxgloves are well suited to it.  I did purchase a couple and they now take pride of place in the garden.

Our 3 water butts are now completely dry of rain water so now resorting to tap water for the poor old plants which are positively melting in this heat – even my lavender who I thought liked dry conditions are even struggling!

We can’t complain though as Autumn, the cold and Winter will soon be upon us.

Speaking of those seasons, I am in the process of making some new Autumn/Halloween and Christmas goodies – these will be uploaded to the Seasonal Page as soon as time permits!

Summer Holiday’s Beckon

I say it every year, but the school summer holiday’s seem to come round so quickly.  I know many dread the long break, but I for one really look forward to them!

This term seems to be jam packed full of school activities and the preparation for my youngest moving to secondary school has begun – he goes again on Thursday and will find out who his form tutor is, his classmates etc etc.  Besides that, there are PGL trips alongside other school trips, end of year services besides all the other after school activities – another reason to look forward to the holidays!

In between, I’m making lots of new goodies to take to a Vintage Fair on Saturday (6th) in Chalford, Stroud.  If you are local please pop by – there will be lots of stallholders with goodies for sale along with tea and cake!  It starts at 11am.

Hopefully next week I’ll be able to get some fabric pumpkins added to the website alongside some Autumnal goodies, and then dare I say it ‘Christmas’ – I really don’t want to think about that yet, but I know people have been asking for Christmas makes already to I better get my thinking cap on!

In the meantime, have a good week!

All about the weather

I know the weather seems to be a constant source of conversation, and just when we thought we had reached the heady heights of summer today, I believe it all goes downhill again from tomorrow! The wildlife and plants don’t seem to know whether it’s coming or going either.  By now I would have picked enough Elderflower to make various jams etc,  but I only just got enough yesterday to make my first batch of Elderflower Jam this year.

I love the smell of Elderflowers, but I know for some it’s not a pleasant one!  I’ve left a dozen Elderflower heads soaking in water (for 3 days) and every now and then I get a gentle waft of their fragrance.

Whilst on my bike today I did spot a huge bush full of flower so have earmarked those to make Elderflower and Strawberry Jam!

Fingers crossed that we have many more days like today – especially with the summer hols on the horizon – where did that school year go?

Homes and Antiques Magazine

After having a rather unproductive day yesterday – you know the sort – when one thing goes wrong, there then seems to be a snowball effect for the rest of the day.  Even a cycle in the sunshine didn’t alter the course of the day.  Until I flicked through the July issue of Homes and Antiques Magazine.

Within the nautical article was one of my ‘sweet little seaside boats’  proud of place on a window sill!

When you get asked to send items off to press, you’re never quite sure if your product will be suitable for the shoot they are doing so to find that the boat had made it in certainly made my day!

You can find them on the Interior Accessories page should you be interested!

Is summer on the way?

Now the warmer weather is here, the days are longer, and the sun is out, why not add some cheery fabric pinwheels to your garden this year.   I make them in a variety of sizes and there’s a selection of different coloured fabrics on offer too.

They are already proving popular, and are ideal for parties or weddings, or just for some colour!

If you want to take a look, you’ll find them on the Interior Accessories page.  There’s also some cute fabric baby bunting which again would be great in the garden – but please note that both the pinwheels and bunting are not suitable if it rains!

A date for the diary!

Get your glad rags on and pennies at the ready as The Vintage Bazaar is heading to Hartley Wintney in Hampshire (RG27 8RE) this coming Saturday (27th April) from 9.30 to 3.00.

I will be there with lots of my handcrafted wares along with plenty of vintage bits and bobs which I have picked up over the last few weeks.  There’s plenty of other tempting exhibitors too, along with tea/coffee and of course cake!

If you do come along, please stop and say hello – it’s always nice to put names to faces!

Hopefully I’ll see you on Saturday.

Come on Spring!

Another Easter has passed us by – it’s probably my most favourite of all the holidays as there’s so much to look forward to in the year – warmer weather (we hope!), sunshine, more Bank Holidays, longer days and blossom!

It’s such a shame that this year’s weather so far has been far from ideal.  We popped off to Barcelona for a short break last week and enjoyed balmy temperatures of high teens, low twenties.  We of course relished in the sun and warmth and more than happy to wear short sleeves, however the Spanish obviously thought it was chilly as they had winter coats, gloves and hats on!  They probably thought ‘Mad English’!

Barcelona had much to offer – full of culture, lots to see, eat and drink.  I could get used to having tapas every Sunday sat in the sun watching the world go by.

We all had a great time.  Our 13 year old certainly enjoyed his tour round FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium.  It was extremely big.

Getting away for a few days is certainly good for the soul!

Where did that week go

Here we are, at the end of yet another week and already half way through March!  Funny to think that a year ago we were having a mini heatwave, no such luck this year.  There seems to be the odd glimmer of hope when the sun dares to show it’s face, then it’s back to dark, cold conditions again.

I had so many good intentions this week, on the crafty front, so many new goodies to make for you all……….

Maybe this weekend I’ll be able to get a few completed.  I’ve half started some mini bunting, and a pretty heart cushion along with a whole array of other WIP’s! so with any luck I’ll be able to show you some new makes – fingers crossed.

I hope everyone has a good weekend and stay warm!
